Connecting with the Tree of Life Within You

A simple exercise to help you connect in the present moment, is to take a walk in nature, find a tree or a river to sit near. Feel the ground, the stones or the water. Smell the air surrounding you. Open yourself to all that is around you and breathe in the beauty of the emotions that fill you. During the day, look to the sun and the sky.  When it is evening, look to the stars, moon and deep space, and remember that they have been here since time began. Listen to the sounds and the silence. Focus on your heart beating within you and allow yourself to feel that you are one with everything. Feel yourself rooted deeply in the earth, yet floating with the stars. Honor the ancestors that came before you and the ones that are yet to be born. Be aware of your breath as you sit in silence and reconnect to yourself and the world around you. Allow yourself to let go of judgement or outcome and enjoy the present moment of being fully alive and awake. Connect with each of your energy centers or chakras and meditate on what you are feeling. Begin at the root and travel up to the crown, then envision surrounding your entire body with a sphere of light. Open your heart and allow the core of who you are to shine through. Sit in that light and enjoy being alive to feel this connection.

"I was seeing in a sacred manner the shape of all things in the Spirit, and the Shape of all Shapes as they must live together like one being and I saw that the sacred hoop of my people was one of many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father. And I saw that it was holy." – Black Elk
